wood bowl, functional, wood art, walnut, box elder, fruit bowl, salad bowl, unique, laminated, chainsaw art, sculpture, wedding gifts, gifts for her, gifts for him, wood art, edgy, fine woodworking
Greg carved the walnut bowl first using his chainsaw. During the drying process, the bowl unfortunately cracked, so he had to replace the bottom with a different piece of wood. He chose to use a piece of flamed, highly figured box elder wood, with the pink hue being natural. To get the wavelike patterning, Greg uses his grinder to refine the chainsaw markings, then onto the sanding to bring the bowl more into focus. He finishes all of his bowls using a butcher block and salad bowl finish, making them functional as well as a piece of art.
